Growth Mindset

Pick up a copy of Mindset: How You Can Fulfill Your Potential by Carol Dweck.

In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success—without effort. They're wrong.

This book is most essential when you’re stuck in a rut. It’s important to remember our brains are malleable.

Synaptic Plasticity is the ability for brain synapsis to strengthen or weaken depending on how much they are utilized. Essentially our brains are similar to muscle. They have the ability to get stronger over time.

This is particularly interesting when it comes to qualities like intellect and skills. For example comedic skill sets are usually attributed as being ‘gifted at birth’. We now know that even social skills can be learned and developed.

This is important to understand and that’s why I suggest reading Carol’s book. We all need to realize that our lot in life is not fixed. We CAN change. We simply need to have the proper frameworks in place, particularly our mindset.
